Jean Carson (February 28, 1923 - November 2, 2005)

Dear Friends,

I have very sad news to report.  Mayberry's own "Fun Girl", Ms Jean Carson, passed away on November 2, 2005 at 2:30pm.

Jean was a wonderful lady and I had the great pleasure of being able to get to know her over the years.  At only the second Mayberry event I ever did as "Floyd" I was blessed to be able to reenact the scene where Jean (as convicted husband beater Naomi) breaks a vase over Floyd's head.  Jean was *so* kind to me that day and it is a memory that has never dulled.  I was, and am, so proud of that day that there has been a photo of that moment on my Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register website ever since.

Jean allowed me to perform that scene with her many times over the last several years and I will miss being with her but I know her spirit will still be with me.

Another great memory is answering the phone early on Christmas morning and hearing "Hello doll!" being spoken. There was never any doubt who it was on the other end of that phone line and my only response was a smile and a big "HEY JEAN!!"

There are so many wonderful memories of Jean that need to be written. I hope this memorial board will be filled with fans and friends memories.

Jean Carson was truly a wonderful lady and I will miss her more than words will say.

It is a sad day in Mayberry. I was fortunate enough to have met Miss Carson on many occasions. It amazed me how much she loved the fans. She always took time to visit and talk with us. She dearly loved that. A special thank you to her son Tracy for taking such good care of her during her illness. We will miss her greatly.

"Goodbye Doll" Until we meet again.

Jean Carson will surely be missed by myself and by all my pals. She was a great Fun Girl and beloved member of the Andy Griffith Show family.
You'll always be in our thoughts, Jean. Rest in Peace, Doll.

Jean will be missed. She was a wonderful actress and I always secretly wanted to be more like Daphne.

Jean carson wasn't a big star but she will long be remembered.

It was so sad to hear about Jean Carson's death.  Daphne definately made Mayberry an even funner place.  As other's have said, "Good-bye Doll".

I am so sorry to hear about Jean Carson. I met her once in Danville, Va. at a Mayberry event. She was very nice and cordial. Myself and a friend at work would always talk about the show. He could imitate her "Hello Doll" so good you would think she was in the room. It was unreal ! God Bless you Jean and thanks for the memories!

I never had the chance to meet Ms. Carson, but she was one heck of an actress.  Loved her on the Andy Griffith Show and loved her on the Twilight Zone.  She will be greatly missed.  "Goodbye, Doll"

Mayberry in the Midwest, New Castle, Indiana.  It was late, nearly 10 p.m., and the lines had been long all evening.  We'd just seen a nearly 4 hour variety show after a day full of activities.  Jean had wowed the audience with a couple of skits with the other cast members and tribute artists.  Then she returned to the autograph area to meet more fans.  She was so humble, gracious and appreciative.  We spoke for a few moments as she wrote "Hello Doll" on my picture.  I really believe she enjoyed meeting the fans as much as we did meeting her.

Thanks, Jean.  For the wonderful memories of your time in Mayberry and the special personal memory of your kindness to a fan.

My most sincere condolences to Tracy and all who loved her.  We'll miss you Jean.  Goodbye Doll!

Jean Carson will certainly be missed.  What a talented lady she was.  And I do mean LADY.  She always conducted herself in an incredibly professional manner.  But most of all, I will always remember her sincere appreciation for the fans who adored her.  She loved her family, friends, and fans (whom she also considered friends).  I only got to work with Ms. Carson one time, here in Pigeon Forge, but saw her at several events, and was always amazed by her kindness.  My deepest sympathies go out to her family.  Ms. Carson brought a lot of happiness to a lot of people over the years and I am thankful that her work can still be enjoyed by all.  Like one character she played, Jean was a fun girl, with a great heart.

Dear Family,
There will be an extra Star in the skys.
A small note for a big "Fun Girl". She Was Born In 1923, not 25,She did'nt like to tell her true age, which was allways ageless. As Bob said "Thanks for the memories".
You fans are beyond Angelic Dreams.
You will keep Jean's Star shining forever!!!!!!!!!
More to come......................

What a very sweet lady.  I had the privilege of meeting Ms. Carson five years ago, I think it was during the same event Allan described where he got to re-enact that scene from "Convicts at Large" for the first time.  She was very kind and gracious and wrote "Hello doll!" when she gave me her autograph.   All day long one line has kept going through my head: "I'm locked up with the sheriff!  I'm locked up with the sheriff!"  A very funny and very classy lady.

My son Phillip (Dooley) and I met Ms. Carson at a Mayberry event here in Kingsport, TN several years ago, and we both fell in love with her!  She was so gracious and sweet, and I could tell just by being around her that she was a Child of God.  She signed autographs and posed for pictures with Phillip, acting like we were the only people in the room (and there were plenty more!)  We left that night feeling that we'd made a wonderful new friend.  I'm so sad to hear of her passing, but I'm glad the Lord was merciful to her in that she didnt' have to suffer long in this world.  We will see you in Heaven one day, Doll!

I really feel saddened at the news of Jeans passing. I was one of those lucky ones that had the opportunity to meet Jean many times over the span of my radio life in Palm Springs.

My friend and radio partner Barry Donovan and myself were doing a retrospective on the Andy Griffith Show and how important that show was to growing up as well as being a part of American Culture.  We had Jack, Hal, George and Elinor on the program throughout the morning and from what I remember Carson her son heard the show, called Jean and she in turn called in. When we picked up the phone, there it was...

Hello Doll.

It Gives me a great smile just thinking about it. We got to know her well over the years and even chatted about the fact she was in one of my favorite movies ever made and was almost cut out of the film!
The Party with Peter Sellers and Directed by Blake Edwards.

She helped bring a lot of smiles to many and enjoyed visiting the Palm Springs Convalescent Hospital and talking with the residents. She was good people.

Carson, thanks for sharing your Mom with us, and Jean, Thanks for the Laughs and Smiles.

Till We Meet Again Doll.
